Sharing Research Needs

Strategic research is one of the most useful tools in organizing campaigns. Our technical assistance strives to go beyond the analyses of industry sector trends and electoral districts to weave multiple needs together such that the whole is greater than the sum of parts. Our approach focuses on:

  • identifying core research needs across multiple constituencies that can be used for popular education, policy analysis and framing reports;
  • developing concrete research relationships with local universities, research centers and government agencies; and
  • linking academics and practitioners to leadership education through a cutting edge curriculum drawn from the best of adult education practices and specialized content.

For example . . .

... in Atlanta, our partner used university students and resources to conduct neighborhood research on issues, producing demographics that were the basis for multi-issue organizing in a targeted neighborhood on the southside.

... in Boston, we supported the research and publication of our partner's first framing report called "The Hourglass Challenge," which was based on the common research needs of its coalition partners;

... in Denver, our partner reached out to the Iliff School of Theology to act as co-sponsor for the CLI, thereby solidifying an institutional relationship and benefiting from the expertise of the faculty at the school;

... in all our sites, academics and local practitioners have spoken about core topics such as: demographics, wages, income, employment trends, health, education, immigration, public institutions and involvement, environmental quality and public health indicators of sustainability.
